Residencies – Public art – Forums – Publications – Videos Committed to research in contemporaty art, 3e impérial combines a program of artist residencies with art production and presentation and contextualizes art in a meaningful way. This residency formula is an experimental platform to integrate a wide range of innovative new practices into the geographical and social environment. In order to sustain reflection around these practices, the centre invites several authors for short-term residencies. In addition, a number of committees made up of active members are essential elements for the centre’s editorial process as well as for the conceptualization of pro-jects and events.
3e impérial produces festive forums, special projects, publications and videos both to document art as it is taking place and to participate in the development of critical discourse. Since its founding in 1984, 3e impérial has been located in the former Imperial Tobacco factory in the heart of a region distinguished by its dynamic interaction of agriculture and industry.
In this fertile mix, multi-facetted public art processes have expanded out into both the rural and urban landscape. Artists’ residencies include the production of public art projects which are documented and disseminated via cyber-reports on our website, through texts written for our publications and by videos. Preceded by a one week research and development stay, these residencies usually last a month and include: residency fee/accomodation/assistance in finding sites; a visit to the local surroundings/support in making contact with local communities/private studio/technical help/ unlimited access to a variety of production equipment/visual documentation/exhibition and reproduction fees. Members are entitled to rent studios at very reasonable rates.
