Les centres d’artistes sont invités à s’inscrire au Supermarket 2011 à Stockholm

We hereby invite all artist-run galleries and other artists’ initiatives to apply to  SUPERMARKET 2011 – the international artist-run art fair in Stockholm, February 18–20, 2011. Application deadline for submission is October 31st, 2010.

The goal of SUPERMARKET is to provide a showcase for artists’ initiatives from all over the world and to create opportunities for new networks in the Swedish and international art scenes. It is also an art fair that strives to offer the visitor an experience, rather than focusing on sales.

Artist-run galleries regularly staging public exhibitions in their own exhibition spaces and other artists’ initiatives can be invited to exhibit at SUPERMARKET 2011. Single artists are not invited to exhibit as regular participants.

SUPERMARKET has a low participation fee and no application fee, so as to include interesting exhibitors who are non-profit or not yet established and unable to take on large financial obligations.

SUPERMARKET 2011 will for the second year in a row take place at Kulturhuset (The House of Culture) in Stockholm. Kulturhuset is located at Sergels torg in the very centre of Stockholm.

Background:
In February 2006, Minimarket, a precursor to SUPERMARKET, was held at Konstnärshuset as a reaction to the new commercial art fair, Market. The following year, SUPERMARKET 2007 occupied the entire building at Konstnärshuset. SUPERMARKET 2008 relocated to larger premises at the old industrial space Enskilda Galleriet. In 2009 SUPERMARKET was held at the Clarion Hotel Stockholm with 55 participants and thereby became Sweden’s largest art fair. In 2010 SUPERMARKET was held at Kulturhuset with 65 participants from more than 20 countries.

Seminars and more:
The overriding theme of SUPERMARKET TALKS will be “The Absent Hub”. A number of international guests, artists as well as theorists, will illuminate these issues from various points of view, mixed up with performances and screenings.
For the second year SUPERMARKET MEETINGS will be a series of short, non-public meetings with a small number of participants that will take place during the show. We will invite project managers, artists that act as exhibition organisers and other influential members of the artistic communities from across the world to meet and exchange experiences and strategies, in order to enable new international collaborations.
SUPER-TV, the zero-budget web-TV follows the fair with live reports and interviews.

Cost of participation:

The cost of participation amounts to SEK 4400 + VAT (approx. € 550), and includes one exhibition space (approx 15–18 sqm), service personnel, and advertising, as well as the PR and the publication of the catalogue and website. Many of the participants receive funding from their national cultural administration or embassies, which are represented with logotypes in all printed material and on the web.
It is also possible to participate with a smaller exhibition stand (SEK 2400 + VAT for a 6–9 sqm space).
In addition to the stand fee, you pay a refundable deposit of 1000 SEK. You get the deposit back after the fair with possible deduction for additional costs such as tables, chairs and cleaning.
It is not possible to share a stand unless you get a special permission, and in case there is still only one original exhibitor mentioned in the list of exhibitors etc.

Catalogue:
For SUPERMARKET, a 4 colour catalogue will be published. This year it will contain more articles and be transformed into a semi-magazine. The catalogue will include images and contact information of all the exhibitors. This information will also be published on the website.

Organisation:
SUPERMARKET 2010 is organised by the artist-led SUPERMARKET ART FAIR registered associaton, in collaboration with a network of artists and young curators in Stockholm. The project managers are Pontus Raud, Meggi Sandell and Andreas Ribbung.

Application procedure:
There is an on-line application on the website. Prepare material to submit: visiting and postal address, one contact person’s name and email, a project proposal including a description of the organisation; its history, structure, purpose, and distinguishing features. If possible, it is preferable if a description of the works to be shown at SUPERMARKET could be included. Please let us know: if you intend to use loud sound; if you would be disturbed by sound; if you only show video and want to be located in an area where there is not too much natural or artificial light etc. Please read the Rules and Regulations. Include 5–10 pictures of work shown or exhibition views from the gallery.
A new element for SUPERMARKET 2011 is that we will offer extra space for exhibitors who wish to bring large-scale installations or sculptures. Exhibits have tended to be small at previous fairs, and we would like more variation in this sense.

The deadline for application is October 31st, 2010.
Please visit our website for further information.
We would also like to take the opportunity to encourage you to add a link to your organisation.

Best Regards,
SUPERMARKET 2011 project committee
