Kim Waldron

The Dad Tapes / The Mom Photographs

This project is an installation that pairs home-video footage recorded by my father with family photographs simultaneously taken by my mother. What will be shown, and which is of central interest, is that there were countless moments in the past 30 years that they both agreed were important to document.

Setting up circumstances for capturing moments has been the focus of my previous photo work. With The Dad Tapes/The Mom Photographs, I bring together a moving picture and a static image of the same event, which animates that moment in a unique, unforeseen way. Separately, the video might seem tedious and the photographs contrived, but when paired, they speak of a basic shared interest—as well as an obsessive need to mediate family life.

Kim Waldron graduated from The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2003. She has exhibited artwork at Khyber Centre for the Arts, Gallery 44, Art Gallery of Windsor, St. Mary’s University Art Gallery and La Centrale. Currently she lives in Montreal, where she was born and raised.
