This residency is designed to bring artists and their collaborators together to experimentally work toward big ideas. Existing collaborative pairs of artists and professionals (from disciplines outside the arts) will participate in an intensive series of think-tank style discussions.
01 Master Class: The Object of Art and the Art as Object with Ken Lum
Residency Dates: January 6 – February 23, 2010

The relationship between art and life has underlined the primary function of the avant-garde in art. The dialectical tension between those objects deemed art or non-art is itself an institutional function of the cultural (social) category of art. This Master Class will explore the operational functioning of the work of art within the constitution of the art world and in relation to different institutional frames.
Self-directed Residencies
Self-directed residencies are self-guided opportunities where the artist is free to experiment and explore new directions in the production of their work.

This residency will focus its inquiry on the transitions between screen and life, as the screen reinforces its central position as an ubiquitous communications portal, data visualization surface, and frame on an ever more meditated world. Practitioners from all walks of screen-based practice are encouraged to apply.
