Starting February 8, an internet domain specifically for the arts will become available: .ART.
e-flux believes that, similar to .com, .org, and .net, addresses with the .ART domain can become an important universal identifier for all artists, art professionals, and art institutions on the internet belonging to our incredibly diverse planetary community.
Many established museums we work with, such as the Van Abbemuseum, the Walker Art Center, the Dia Art Foundation, the Stedelijk Museum, and others, have already adopted .ART domain addresses. Numerous galleries and not-for-profits, from Para Site in Hong Kong to the ICA in London, from Artists Space in New York to RAW Material Company in Dakar, from Beirut Art Center to Museo Tamayo in Mexico City, have also secured addresses with the .ART domain.
e-flux has joined forces with the rights holder in charge of operating and selling the .ART domain addresses to create a special professional period from February 8 to May 9 when core practitioners in the art community can become the first to register .ART domain addresses, before they become available to general public. This is an important and time-sensitive opportunity to secure your name or the name of your organization, as well as other names relevant to you. After the professional period ends on May 9, many addresses may significantly increase in price or become unavailable.
Access to domain registration will be administered by special token—a voucher issued to art institutions and individuals on our mailing list. Only token holders will be able to register .ART domain addresses during this professional period.
All e-flux subscribers should expect to receive a special invitation by February 8. Those who are not on our list may subscribe now in order to receive a token.
