SUPERMARKET 2016

Scandinavia’s most international art fair  – SUPERMARKET 2016 is celebrating its 10 year anniversary

SUPERMARKET will for the second year in a row arrange the art fair for artist-run spaces at Svarta Huset, Telefonplan in Stockholm.

The goal of SUPERMARKET is to provide a showcase for artists’ initiatives from all over the world and to create opportunities for new networks in the Swedish and international art scenes. It is also an art fair that strives to offer the visitor an experience, rather than focusing on sales.

As in previous years, there will be a variety of performances and many possibilities for the visitors themselves to interact. But above all, the entire event is an amazing experience, with a multi-faceted mix of artistic expression and visitors from around the globe.

In a recent article about Supermarket 2015, John Gayer wraps it up like this:
“The great thing about Supermarket is that it presents art that is about as far away as one can get from what is shown in museums. As The Art Newspaper reported just a couple of weeks before this year’s edition of Supermarket opened, artists from 5 galleries dominate museum shows in the USA. So, at a time when Louise Bourgeois’ spiders seem to function as a veritable ‘golden arches’ of the art world, it’s refreshing to see art that is energetic, unpredictable, contemplative, imperfect, thought provoking, striving to takes risks, disparate, enlightening, bordering on the absurd, honest, intelligent, densely arrayed and – well, when it’s all added up – a lot of fun.”

The full report can be read on the blog Eyeballing Art.

It all started in 2006 as ‘Minimarket’, and the next year ‘Supermarket’ was born. 2016 will be the 10 year anniversary of the project and the 10th Supermarket – Stockholm Independent Art Fair.

At the moment Supermarket welcome artist-run spaces from around the world to apply to next year’s fair. The deadline for applications is Friday 20 November.
