Anne-Marie Ouellet & Hermine Ortega

Anne-Marie Ouellet creates interventions in public space and supplements them with instructions and textual, graphic, photographic and video documentation. She predominately foregrounds individual and collective behaviors that question social norms. For many years, Hermine Ortega has engaged in a multidisciplinary practice to reflect on the power of print, as well as the art and politics nexus. From 2017 to 2019, as part of the KABANE77 collective, they collaborated on the Cahiers des impossibles, a free monthly Risograph-printed journal for which Anne-Marie worked on the graphic design (layout and visuals) and Hermine ensured the writing, editing and revision. At the start of the year, they launched Nullica, a new collection of the L’Oie de Cravan (images and poetry) publishing house, where they worked together on three books: Lune très bellePetits morceaux de jeune homme and La fleuve.

Their residency at SAGAMIE will provide them with the opportunity to interweave text, image and objects through the creation of L’île, a book that relates a real or imaginary walk through the city of Laval and which combines elements of a theatrical play, the real estate developer’s guidebook and a political pamphlet.
